BeerBoard's 2022 St. Patrick's Day Report Showcases Green Wave of On-Premise Draft VolumeBeerBoard, the leader in technology and automated intelligence for the on-premise hospitality industry, just released its 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Report, and one thing is very clear … the most shamrockin’ day of the year is back!

After a 2020 hiatus and a watered down 2021, St. Patrick’s Day took the country by storm as Irish folk songs and green wardrobes flooded bars, breweries and block parties from coast to coast. Nationwide, on-premise draft volume increased over 118% compared to 2021 and even saw a 9% bump compared to 2019 — the last time the holiday was fully celebrated.

After a slight yet shocking decline in 2021, Stouts made a triumphant return. Typically, the dark beer comes in around 11th on the list of Top Styles in the BeerBoard Year in Beer. However, for its special day, Stouts climbed all the way to sixth and saw a 137% increase in volume nationally. Guinness, the top-poured stout, moved up to the eighth-most popular brand for the day.

As for the other styles, Light Lagers and Lagers saw a healthy uptick on St. Patrick’s Day. Light Lagers jumped up 116% and Lagers were up 74% compared to 2021. After seeing a slight dip last year, IPAs rebounded and went up 169%. For St. Paddy’s Day 2022, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra and Coors Light were named the top three brands poured nationally, respectively.

Two U.S. cities noted for its St. Patrick’s Day celebrations — New York City and Chicago — experienced a major lift. As both cities enforced heavy restrictions the past couple of years, revelers welcomed back the iconic holiday in fine fashion. In New York City, volume was up a whopping 507% over 2021. In Chicago, where the city goes as far as to dye the Chicago River green for the day, the Windy City saw an even greater increase than the Big Apple as draft volume increased 628% over 2021.
