The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers (CHART) (www.chart.org) today announced that Jeff Warne, President and CEO of Perkins & Marie Callender’s LLC (PMC), is the recipient of its 2017 Commitment to People Award. Warne will be honored at the Commitment to People Awards Gala on Monday evening, July 17, during CHART’s 94th semi-annual Hospitality Training Conference to be held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, San Diego, CA.

“Created in 1993, this prestigious award is given annually to a CHART member’s CEO/president in the hospitality industry who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the development of his or her associates,” explained Michele Lange, CHART president-elect and director of training and development of The Habit Burger Grill. “Under Jeff’s leadership, the message of ‘We are Good People Doing Good Work’ as a culture building-block is evident in Perkins & Marie Callender’s everyday operations. The exceptional retention and loyalty of PMC team members is living proof that leadership matters.”

The Perkins and Marie Callender’s brands both have a rich and strong heritage, and Jeff actively challenges his team to embrace this legacy while continually exploring and finding ways to keep the concepts relevant and thriving. In the award application, Jeff’s team offered many examples of his care for people, including the organization’s support of Give Kids the World and the launch of the company’s corporate university where employees learn about the unique aspects of the organization’s culture and gain the knowledge and tools to help them succeed. Other examples of Jeff’s commitment to Perkins & Marie Callender’s since joining the company in 2012 include the “culture card” initiative and the creation of a new internal position, Vice President of Culture and Development.

“While I am honored to receive such a special award from a respected organization, this recognition is really a tribute to our employees and franchisees whose hard work continues to ensure the success and longevity of Perkins & Marie Callender’s,” said Jeff. “It is my privilege to lead and represent such an outstanding team of caring associates who carry on the legacy of these great brands and create a lasting connection with our guests each and every day.”

CHART’s Selection Committee reviews and ranks the Commitment to People nominees in four categories:

  • Effective communication of the organization’s culture
  • Programs that demonstrate a commitment to people
  • Efforts to be involved in the development of people
  • Ability to break down barriers to create opportunities
