Cousins Subs Introduces "Twisted" Pretzel Bread Sandwiches

Cousins Subs is introducing two innovative pretzel bread subs to its classic menu: the Twisted Ham & Cheddar and the Twisted Turkey & Roast Beef.  Both will be available at Cousins Subs stores beginning October 29, 2012.

“Development of the ‘Twisted Subs’ took a bit of thought and experimentation,” said Kim Kofler, Vice President of Operations at Cousins Subs.  “Pretzel-type food is among the top 10 upcoming food innovations of 2012 and we wanted to find a way to incorporate this trend into our existing menu.  In addition, we wanted to offer our guests a comforting, feel-good sandwich for the colder months.”

New additions to the Cousins Subs menu are evaluated at a test kitchen located at the company’s corporate headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Kofler’s menu development team conducts “Kitchen Time,” where management, franchise owners and other business partners come in to sample food and provide feedback on recipes.  These sessions are held frequently through out the year.

“Pretzel bread was a huge hit in ‘Kitchen Time,’” said Kofler, “and that’s great for us, because Cousins Subs has always been known for our terrific, freshly-baked bread.

The participants really loved the flavor profiles of both of these Twisted subs.  We’re pleased with our result; we think our guests will be, too.”

The Twisted Ham & Cheddar features: hot ham with lots of melted cheddar cheese, bistro sauce, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes on pretzel bread.  A packet of crushed red peppers is served on the side.

The Twisted Turkey & Roast Beef features roast beef, turkey breast, cheddar cheese, brown mustard, mayo, lettuce, onions and tomatoes on pretzel bread.

The Twisted Ham & Cheddar and the Twisted Turkey & Roast Beef will be available in Cousins Subs stores starting on October 29, through the end of the year.

Cousins Subs was established in 1972, when Bill Specht and his cousin opened their first shop in Milwaukee to curb a hankering for their favorite East Coast subs. Their handcrafted, deli-style subs eventually stirred a hungry fan base who especially loved Cousins’ secret recipe for freshly baked bread with the perfect amount of crunch in the crust.  This bread eventually became the cornerstone for their Better Bread.  Better Subs positioning. Celebrating its 40th anniversary as a family-owned business in 2012, Cousins Subs and its franchisees now operate approximately 150 stores in six states and are embarking on an expansion plan.  For more information, visit www.cousinssubs.com.  You can also find Cousins Subs on Facebook and Twitter.
