All Mercy Ships’ volunteer hospitality staff to receive interactive training in important safety content

Foodservice Training Portal Sets Sail with Mercy Ships to Provide Online Learning to Foodservice VolunteersFoodservice Training Portal announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Mercy Ships to provide online learning to the organization’s volunteer foodservice staff. Mercy Ships can now provide on-demand courseware as part of onboarding and ongoing training for these crewmembers during their volunteer experience.

With their cloud-based courses specifically for foodservice workers, Foodservice Training Portal allows for enterprises of all sizes to quickly and efficiently provide important safety content consistently to an ever-rotating population of staff. While Mercy Ships previously relied primarily on in-house training seminars, volunteer crewmembers now have access to interactive content-  Basic Food Safety eStart, Allergen eStart, Healthy Habits eStart and Customer Service eStart – anywhere, and on any device.

Implementation of this food safety and customer service content will allow for foodservice staff to access on-demand and engaging learning experiences compatible with the international network of Mercy Ships. The courses will equip all hospitality staff with knowledge of critical issues of safe food handling & preparation, equipping them with all the practical skills required to be a part of the food flow process as well as instilling customer service strategies to better serve fellow crewmembers.

“We are pleased that the Mercy Ships has chosen to provide its foodservice volunteers with these resources,” noted Eric Webster, Managing Director for Foodservice Training Portal. “This collaboration aims to streamline the process of educating new volunteers- saving time and creating greater efficiency onboard the ships. Ideally, this allows Mercy Ships to focus less on hospitality and service logistics and more on their mission of serving the healthcare needs of the underserved.”

Mercy Ships uses hospital ships to deliver free, world-class healthcare services, capacity building and sustainable development to those without access in the developing world. Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, Mercy Ships has worked in more than 70 countries providing services valued at more than $1 billion, treating more than 2.5 million direct beneficiaries.
