Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its doors in San Diego on April 25. Franchise owner Kevin Kenny, along with his brothers David, Patrick and Chris, held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, April 25 to Sunday, May 6 to support Mission Bay High School.
The new restaurant, located at 1975 Garnet Avenue, circulated 7,500 coupons throughout the community, which offered a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Mission Bay High School.
The Kenny brothers – Kevin (37), identical twins David and Patrick (36) and Chris (28) grew up four miles away from the original Jersey Mike’s Subs in the Jersey Shore community of Point Pleasant – and ate there every day. They now live together in Del Mar.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s continued its steady growth in 2011 opening 69 new restaurants throughout the country, a 15 percent increase overall. The popular sub shop wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.
The Kenny Brothers exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
“We focus on supporting children, as we have always done with our fundraising efforts,” said Kevin Kenny. “For our new Pacific Beach location we have chosen Mission Bay High School as our charity partner. The school is in the heart of Pacific Beach and just a short walk from our new shop. Students and parents are opting out of fast food and looking for healthier options like the Jersey Mike’s #7 sub or Sub-in-a-Tub featuring our 99% fat free turkey. We’re psyched to bring the authentic sub sandwiches of Jersey Mike’s to Pacific Beach!”
Mission Bay High School seeks to ensure that all students realize their boundless potential through a system of learning distinguished by attributes such as enrichment, rigor, recognized achievement, and a strong partnership between family, school, and community.
Passionate Jersey Mike’s fans crave their subs made Mike’s Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike’s more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.
This is the third Jersey Mike’s location for the Kenny Brothers. In July 2010, they opened their first location in Solana Beach and in January 2012, they opened their second location in La Jolla.
