Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is categorized as “fast-casual” in the restaurant industry, where patrons order at the counter and retrieve their food shortly after ordering. With seating for about 100, almost all of the food is freshly prepared in house. Tacos start at $2.49, “jumbo burritos” start at $6.99, and dinner plates range from $7 to $10. Fuzzy’s inexpensive value-driven menu (including a Kids Menu), large patio, expansive selection of draft and craft beers, signature frozen cocktails, and several different flavors of margaritas, will make it popular among both young and old alike.
Fuzzy’s first foray into Nebraska was in 2012 with the opening of the Fuzzy’s Taco Shop in downtown Lincoln, which quickly became a popular destination for University of Nebraska-Lincoln students because of its late-night hours and close proximity to City Campus. The Lincoln Fuzzy’s Taco Shop was one of the company’s most successful in 2015, achieving the highest percentage gain in year-over-year sales.
The company expects similar success from the new Omaha Fuzzy’s, and plans call for opening up to six more locations in the area over the next two years.
Since its beginnings in Fort Worth, Texas in 2001, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has become well known around the country for its casual, fun atmosphere, uniquely flavorful Baja-style Mexican fare, and all-day breakfast. Fuzzy’s menu features its original take on the fish taco, which is often referred to as “addictive” thanks to the garlic sauce and feta cheese that make it so distinctive. Brightly painted walls, red booths, galvanized metal accents and the mascot “Eat Me” fish create a festive atmosphere that is all a part of the Fuzzy’s experience.
Over the last year, Fuzzy’s has brought on 20 new franchise groups who will soon be introducing its popular, family-friendly fast-casual concept to additional states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia. That success and growth is what attracted the NRD Fund, a private equity fund, to indirectly acquire a majority interest in Fuzzy’s Taco Shop earlier this year. Fuzzy’s Taco Shop was recently named one of “2016’s 10 Best Franchise Deals” by QSR Magazine and Franchise Business Review.
