HealthyDiningFinder.com Receives Web Health Award from Prestigious Health Information Resource Center

HEALTHY DINING today announced that its signature website and premier restaurant search engine, HealthyDiningFinder.com, received a Merit Award in the website category of the 14th annual Health Information Resource Center (HIRC) Winter/Spring 2012 Web Health Awards.  This is the second Web Health Award for HealthyDiningFinder.com – a Bronze award winner in the “Health Promotion” category in 2009. The HIRC Web Health Awardsrecognize the nation’s best digital health resources.

“It is an honor to receive this Web Health Award, and we are thrilled that HIRC is recognizing HealthyDiningFinder.com’s contribution as a top digital health resource,” said Anita Jones-Mueller, MPH, Founder and President of HEALTHY DINING.

HealthyDiningFinder.com is the only online resource that offers Americans nutrition information for ‘dietitian-approved HEALTHY DINING menu choices’ served at restaurants coast to coast, fast food to fine dining. The site also provides inspirational and educational nutrition content, recipes, blogs, e-newsletters and other dining-out and nutrition-related information. Additionally, HealthyDiningFinder.com recently was recognized by Yahoo! Web Life as a top site for dining out healthfully in a TODAY Show segment on “smart technology for eating healthy.”

Additionally, HealthyDiningFinder.com features qualifying Kids LiveWell choices to make it easy for parents to find healthier kids meals. The Kids LiveWell program was developed in collaboration with the National Restaurant Association. Launched last summer, Kids LiveWell has grown from 19 participating restaurant companies to more than 100 companies representing more than 25,000 locations nationwide.

Jones-Mueller expressed appreciation to HEALTHY DINING’s participating restaurants featured on the site for their leadership and proactive efforts in joining the HEALTHY DINING initiative and offering their customers dietitian-approved HEALTHY DINING choices. Since the Healthy Dining Program launched nationwide five years ago, the number of restaurants offering HEALTHY DINING-approved choices has grown steadily from 60 companies to close to 400 companies. And the number of HEALTHY DINING-approved choices has grown by more than 1500%, from about 225 in 2007 to close to 3,500 qualifying menu choices now. “This means that the industry as a whole is increasing access to and availability of healthier options. And that is a huge leap forward for public health!” added Jones-Mueller.

The HIRC competition, which is held twice yearly, featured over 40 entry categories including blog, e-newsletter, mobile application, mobile website, social media, video, and website.  A panel of 32 experts in digital health media served as judges for the competition.
