Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its doors in Maitland on May 2. Franchise owner Jeff Padgett held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, May 2 to Sunday, May 11 to support Hugz from Bugz.
The new restaurant, located at 246 N. Orlando Avenue, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community, which offered a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Hugz from Bugz.
Hugz from Bugz is a non-profit organization created to help families in Central Florida coping with childhood cancer. Funds donated to the organization are spent on items and activities to enhance the quality of life for children with cancer and their families.
Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s continued its steady growth in 2011 opening 69 new restaurants throughout the country, a 15 percent increase overall. The popular sub shop wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.
Jeff Padgett exemplifies Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 100,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
“I love the fact that Jersey Mike’s grand openings center on giving back,” said Padgett. “Partnering with Hugz from Bugz is a great chance for me to raise funds for a charity and create a customer base at the same time. Families that are affected with childhood cancer benefit greatly from the support of Hugz from Bugz, and I am hopeful that this grand opening fundraiser will provide them with additional funds to make an even greater impact.”
Passionate Jersey Mike’s fans crave their subs made Mike’s Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. Unlike its pre-sliced competition, the company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike’s more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.
This is the fifth Jersey Mike’s location for Jeff Padgett. In October 2007, he opened his first Jersey Mike’s location in Lake Mary. Padgett is also the owner of two Jersey Mike’s in Altamonte Springs and one in Orlando, which was opened just last month.
