Jersey Mike's Subs Opens South Pasadena Restaurant

Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, opened its first South Pasadena location on September 5.  Franchise owners and brothers John and Allan Simmons with John’s wife Kristi Simmons held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wed., Sept. 5 to Sun., Sept. 9 to support the South Pasadena Educational Foundation.

The new restaurant, located at 462 Fair Oaks Avenue, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community and in The La Cañada Flintridge Outlook, which offered a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to the South Pasadena Educational Foundation.

Since its inception, the South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF) has provided much needed support to South Pasadena students in all educational areas including academics, books and technology, libraries service and support, visual and performing arts, foreign languages, science, character education, critical thinking, career center, staff development, counseling, and athletics.  Donations to SPEF have always supported all five of South Pasadena’s public schools: Arroyo Vista, Marengo, Monterey Hills, Middle School, and High School.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s continued its steady growth in 2011 opening 69 new restaurants throughout the country, a 15 percent increase overall.  The popular sub shop wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

The Simmonses exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community.  In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

“We are honored to support the South Pasadena Educational Foundation, said Allan Simmons.  “Its involvement is essential to the local schools and we are glad to help make a difference for so many students.”

This is the third Jersey Mike’s location for John, Allan and Kristi Simmons. They opened their first Jersey Mike’s location in January 2010 in La Canada and went on to open another in Pasadena in November 2010.  The Simmonses have lived in the area for over 30 years and John has enjoyed coaching all three of his children through the South Pasadena AYSO organization.
