Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its doors in Orange on June 20. Franchise owners Marie and David May and Pamela and Wayne Tyo held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wed., June 20 to Sun., June 24 to support Kid’s Play.
The new restaurant, located at 3428 E. Chapman Avenue, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community, which offered a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Kid’s Play.
Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s continued its steady growth in 2011 opening 69 new restaurants throughout the country, a 15 percent increase overall. The popular sub shop wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.
The Mays and the Tyos exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
“The high quality product and commitment to charity and customer service is what attracted us to Jersey Mike’s as business owners,” said Marie May. “Our core values align totally with the core values of the company, making Jersey Mike’s a great fit for us. We decided to partner with Kid’s Play for our grand opening because our children were all involved in recreational sports when they were younger and we were heavily involved in coaching. Kid’s Play makes it possible for children from lower socio-economic families to participate in youth sports, which are so important to the health and well-being of children. The organization provides scholarships to children so they can take part in recreational sports that sometimes require heavy fees to join. We believe it is so important for every child to have the opportunity to be on the team and we are excited for our partnership with Kid’s Play.”
Passionate Jersey Mike’s fans crave their subs made Mike’s Way with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike’s more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.
This is the first Jersey Mike’s location for the Mays and the Tyos.
