Matthews restaurant welcomes customers back with $5 pie offer

Local Pie Five Pizza Doesn't Let Anyone Crash Their Party, Sets Grand Re-Opening For Aug. 26When a local driver hit the gas instead of the brakes while pulling up to the Pie Five Pizza off Matthews Township Parkway earlier this month, she redefined the notion of “drive-thru” service.

Fortunately, only one person sustained minor injuries from the Aug. 15 accident. A husband and wife ordering at the counter saw the vehicle approaching and were able to get out of the way. And while having to close the Matthews restaurant to repair the front of the building has been a setback for him and an inconvenience for his customers,

Matthews franchise owner Mike Understein said he is just thankful no one was severely hurt.

“It was a pretty scary experience for everyone in our restaurant. It’s not every day you see a car barging in through the front door! We are so glad everyone is OK,” said Understein.

To celebrate the grand re-opening of his Pie Five on Tuesday, Aug. 26, Understein is offering $5 personalized pizzas beginning today and lasting through Monday, Sept. 1. He quickly adds the offer is “for dine-in service only.” Registered fans of Pie Five will also receive a special offer via email.

“It’s a little early to be renovating our restaurant, but we took advantage of the opportunity and look forward to welcoming our customers back on Tuesday,” said Understein. “A $5 personalized pizza made-to-order with all your favorite toppings in just five minutes is worth rushing in for, but please take the time to find a parking spot before you order!”
