Local Residents Open 1st Of 20 Jersey Mike's Subs Restaurants in Michigan

Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, officially opened its 2nd restaurant in Michigan Wednesday, September 5.  Franchise owners and local Oakland and Macomb County residents Bob Middleton, Carl Chandler and Bill Biga held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wed., Sept. 5 to Sun., Sept. 9 to support two local schools:  Utica High School Athletic Boosters and Eppler Junior High School Athletic Boosters.

This is the first of 20 Jersey Mike’s locations the three plan to open in the next 5 years in Oakland and Macomb Counties.  Another location is scheduled to open in Rochester Hills by the end of the year.  The East Coast sub sensation opened its first Michigan restaurant in Ann Arbor back in May.

The new restaurant, located at 12161 23 Mile Rd, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community, half of which offered a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Utica High School Athletic Boosters and the other half offering the same deal to support the Eppler Junior High School’s Athletic Boosters.

“We love athletics which teach important life skills related to teamwork, competition and discipline, and we are happy to support our local schools,” said Middleton.  “In fact, we selected Jersey Mike’s as a brand because of its successful business model that allows giving back to the community.  We met Jersey Mike’s Founder and CEO Peter Cancro and immediately saw we shared a deep passion for making a difference in people’s lives.

Middleton, Chandler and Biga exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company’s commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community.  In 2011, locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Long-time partners Middleton and Chandler also own 28 Little Caesars Pizza restaurants in Toronto and Indiana as well as 2 Del Taco and 2 Sonic restaurants in Michigan.

Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s continued its steady growth in 2011 opening 69 new restaurants throughout the country, a 15 percent increase overall.  Already in 2012, the company has opened nearly 60 new locations nationwide.  The popular sub shop wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

“Jersey Mike’s makes one heck of a delicious sub sandwich,” said Middleton.  “Carl, Bill and I can’t wait to share it with our friends and neighbors in Oakland and Macomb Counties.”

Passionate Jersey Mike’s fans crave their subs made Mike’s Way with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices.  The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread.  Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike’s more than fifty years ago.  The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. You can contact this store directly at (586) 997-1571.
