MFHA’s premier, live and interactive career exploration event for the youth, Showcase of the Stars (aka Showcase), marks a return to Dallas, TX, with a sold-out event at El Centro College, on Friday, October 30. Expecting 500 students, this by far, is one of the largest Showcase events to-date.
Since the first Showcase 15 years ago, the program has brought positive impact to close to 20,000 students. The inspiration comes from stories of success that guest panelists share at the event, coupled with career advice and straight talk. These panelists, or “stars”, represent MFHA’s leading corporate members – some of the most recognized foodservice and hospitality brands.
Gerry A. Fernandez, MFHA President & Founder, believes that, “Showcase has been so successful because it motivates students, provides positive and diverse role models, and brings schools and industry together around a common goal of career mapping. On the other hand, our industry has so much to offer in terms of a rewarding career and Showcase provides our members just the venue to share this great news directly with the youth. ”
This event’s “stars” come from Sodexo, Starbucks Coffee Company, Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle Mexican Grill. Dress for Success Dallas, along with volunteers form MFHA members BAMA Companies, OTG, and Sonic Restaurants, Inc. are participating in the breakout sessions, and lunch is courtesy of Which Wich.
What contributed to the large turnout is the strong collaboration MFHA has with the event sponsors: the local school district and the college itself — Dallas County Community College and El Centro College’s Food & Hospitality Institute, respectively — along with participation from select local businesses, a celebrity chef who is regarded as a local hero, and most of all, the voluntary participation of a few members in the breakout sessions.
This event also provides the additional opportunity for students to interact with additional team members from the panelist companies.
