In the mean time, the Willeys will be serving their beloved fare to their regular local customers and to the annual summer influx of vacationers in the resort town on the Potomac River. The waterfront community about an hour from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA, is celebrating its 120-year anniversary this summer.
“Restaurants change hands on a regular basis, but this deal is different,” said Pete Ramsey, the event manager for the auction. “When you’ve grown to be part of a community, it’s no small thing to sell your family business. This is more than a job; it’s a way of life.”
The auction will include the real estate and much of the furnishings and kitchen equipment, as well as exterior walk-in freezers. “With their customer base and revenue history and with its long frontage on Route 205 [the primary highway into Colonial Beach], we expect motivated bidders,” said Ramsey, “We’re hoping for the Mike and Trisha to get a great return on their years of investing in this place.”
