Nation’s leading fast-casual pizza brand to open first D.C. restaurant Friday
In a town where it’s nearly impossible to find common ground, there’s one thing everyone should be able to agree upon: Few things in life are better than a handcrafted artisan pizza made with all your favorite toppings.
This Friday, denizens of the Nation’s Capitol will get their first taste of the country’s leading fast-casual pizza chain, Pie Five Pizza. The trend-setting concept will unveil its newest restaurant in L’Enfant Plaza Center, one block south of the National Mall, on March 13. Doors open at 7 a.m.
The grand opening marks Pie Five’s fourth location in the greater Washington D.C. market, and its first inside the Beltway to serve up handcrafted, personalized pizzas using only the freshest ingredients, baked to order at one great price. The “five” in Pie Five means it all happens in five minutes or less!
The L’Enfant Plaza restaurant will mark Pie Five’s 39th location in ten states (Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia) plus the District of Columbia, with more than 400 announced company-owned and franchise units under contract in 14 states.
Local franchise owner Alyse Cohen first brought the trend-setting pizza concept to Frederick last August. She has since opened popular locations in Laurel and Sterling. The new D.C. restaurant is one of up to 38 Pie Five franchise units Cohen and her company, ALC Hospitality, plans to open in the area.
“I’m so excited that we are finally ready to make our debut in the Nation’s Capitol,” said Cohen. “We’ve had nothing but rave reviews from our customers in Southern Maryland and Northern Virginia, and I know our unique combination of fresh, quality ingredients, individually handcrafted pies and fast, friendly service will be welcome here, too. It’s delicious and ideal for on-the-go people, which all of us seem to be these days.”
Also proceeds raised from private training events held at the restaurant this week will go towards Delete Blood Cancer DKMS. The New York-based nonprofit organization works every day to delete blood cancer by inspiring people to register as bone marrow donors in order to provide patients with second chances at life. “DKMS is an extraordinary organization that has had our support since our first restaurant opened,” said Cohen. “We’re happy to continue partnering with them and look forward to many more opportunities like this in the future.”
Here’s how the Pie Five experience works. As pizza lovers step to the counter, our Pie-artisans help them choose their favorite crust – artisan thin, classic pan, whole grain Neapolitan or gluten-free thin. Then they can choose from seven sauces, four cheeses, eight meats and 16 veggies and, best of all, there’s no penalty for piling on…there’s more than a million combinations of handcrafted personal pizzas to choose from.
Pie Five bakes each personal pizza in a specially designed oven. By the time the guest arrives at the register, their hot, bubbly, pizza perfection is ready. And whether they select from one of Pie Five’s specialty recipes or create their own, it’s all the same great price: A handcrafted, artisan pizza that would cost $13-15 in an upscale restaurant for under $8.
Pie Fivers can also add a fresh, hand-made salad, tossed right in front of them while their pizza bakes. Dessert offerings include Turtle brownies and chocolate chip pizza cookies, as well as seasonal confections, all baked fresh daily.
At the L’Enfant Plaza location only, Pie Five will also be serving up delicious breakfast options like breakfast pizzas with scrambled eggs or egg whites, as well as warm cinnamon rolls. Breakfast will be served weekdays until 10:30 a.m.
Pie Five Pizza has been named among Fast Casual’s 2014 Top 15 “Movers & Shakers,” a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation’s Restaurant News and one of “10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands” by Forbes.com.
The L’Enfant Plaza Center restaurant will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Closed Saturday and Sunday.) A complete menu and more information are available at piefivepizza.com.
