With states enacting new laws regarding intoxicating substances, it’s no wonder that some companies are rushing to expand their adults-only dining options. Unique Pizza and Subs recently announced that it’s considering the development of a new pizza product with cannabis infused into it. With the recent legalization of recreational marijuana use in Colorado and medical use approved in nearly two dozen other states, the company decided to call on the expertise of Dr. Reddy’s laboratories and kitchens to make a unique product that appeals to a new crowd. If the company does design and release a set of Unique Pizzas containing cannabis components, they will sell through night clubs and bars that already check identification to verify the age of buyers.
The company is hoping to get a jump on the competition by putting the superior technology of the Dr. Reddy’s facilities to good use while the demand for cannabis enhanced products is just starting to grow. Colorado followed their decision to legalize recreational use of marijuana with testing of edible products containing extracts and infusions, and Unique Pizza considers it the most promising region for developing this kind of unusual product. Expanding into the world of enhanced pizzas will put Unique Pizza at the forefront of an entirely new branch of ready to eat cannabis products. Of course, the developments from Dr. Reddy’s labs will combine with the unbeatable flavors the pizza company is known for.
Unique Pizza and Subs’ CEO, James Vowler, said that the company had been discussing the possibility of creating a cannabis related product since April. Early conversations and casual brainstorming sessions led to the initial development steps that are currently in progress. The company is also working on releasing their first frozen pizza product as well. They plan to co-currently develop the two products for a similar release date. The team even has a shareholder interested in distributing the cannabis pizza in Canada.
The company is also working with marijuana infusion chefs to develop a cannabis-infused signature pizza sauce.
