New Orleans-born coffeehouse to reserve a table for missing soldiers

PJ's Coffee Pays Tribute to Military Personnel for Memorial DayPJ’s Coffee will reserve a special single table throughout Memorial Day weekend in honor of U.S. military heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

With a long history of supporting U.S. military service members, all PJ’s Coffee locations — over 180 systemwide — will participate in the initiative, reserving a table for fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service members. Each table will feature an item that signifies the importance of their sacrifice, including:

  • An empty chair to represent the Americans who were or are missing from each of the armed services — U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
  • A white cloth to exemplify the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve.
  • A single red rose to recall the lives of these Americans and their loved ones who keep their faith while seeking answers.
  • A yellow ribbon to represent the continuing uncertainty, the hope for their return and the determination to account for them.
  • A slice of lemon to remind guests of their bitter fate, captured or missing in a foreign land.
  • A pinch of salt to represent the tears of the missing heroes and their families.
  • A lighted candle to reflect hope for their return.
  • An inverted piece of glass to denote their inability to share a toast.

“At PJ’s Coffee, we stand firm in our commitment to supporting U.S. veterans and active military personnel in every capacity possible,” said President of PJ’s Coffee and U.S. Army veteran Peter Boylan. “Our hearts and prayers are with every family commemorating a lost loved one this Memorial Day. It is our fervent hope that these reserved tables serve as poignant reminders of the profound significance of this sacred national observance.”

Boylan is one of several U.S. veterans among other active military family members and franchisees who call PJ’s Coffee their work family. As a longtime member of the International Franchise Association VetFran, the New Orleans-born coffeehouse takes pride in its military roots, annually awarding a franchise to a U.S. veteran and offering all qualified veterans 20% off their franchise fee.

PJ’s will also once again host its annual Veteran Franchise Giveaway this summer. U.S. military veterans are eligible to enter, and one lucky winner will receive a free franchise license valued at $35,000.

Phyllis Jordan, a pioneer in the coffee industry, founded PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans in 1978 and demonstrated that better beans, superior roasting techniques, and pure passion for the art of coffeemaking mattered. In 2008, the company was purchased by New Orleans natives and brothers Paul, Steven, and Scott Ballard. PJ’s Coffee serves a wide variety of hot, iced and frozen coffee beverages using only the best quality Arabica coffee beans, as well as organic tea and fresh breakfast pastries. PJ’s Original Cold Brew Iced Coffee is brewed daily using a special cold-drip process that protects the flavor and strength of the beans while producing a coffee that is two-thirds less acidic – a process and technique developed by its founder and used for more than 45 years at all PJ’s locations. Bags of whole-bean coffee and single-serve cups of PJ’s Coffee are available for sale in-store and online. With more than 180 operating stores, including four international locations, PJ’s Coffee continues to grow in the U.S. and abroad.
