Making it easier for customers with food restrictions to view customized meal options.
In an effort to make it simpler for customers with food allergies and restrictions to eat at its restaurants, Quiznos recently added an ‘Interactive Allergy Menu’ tool to its U.S. website and mobile phone applications.
Using this new utility, a customer simply selects foods/ ingredients that he/she may be allergic to or, wishes to avoid; and, immediately views menu options available at Quiznos that do not contain those restrictions.
Customers can choose from hundreds of combinations of items to be avoided including, but not limited to the major eight allergen groups. Customers may also choose to avoid ingredients such as MSG and Sulfites.
Customers with dietary restrictions such as food allergies and intolerances such as Gluten comprise a significant segment of the population. An estimated 25+ million customers have some kind of dietary restriction or preference in US of whom about 15 million have some kind of food allergy (Source: FARE- Food Allergy Research and Education).
This tool aims at reducing the practical difficulties of finding out if a particular menu item has an ingredient that a person may be allergic to, but also to simplify the process of conveniently presenting acceptable choices for a customer with restrictions especially at meal-order points.
Customers can now go to Quiznos website and find out their meal options before heading out to a Quiznos or, interactively view their options on their own smart phone devices while at the restaurant.
A very practical feature of the mobile application is that it is set up to display options in tandem with the way the ordering protocol is set up at a typical Quiznos store. Example, a customer, after entering their restrictions on their smartphone device, is first prompted about available bread options; then the available dressings/sauce options; and then the meat options to coincide with the workflow of the sandwich preparation process. This setup reduces potential ‘bottlenecks’ or delays that may be caused by customers not sure about acceptable ingredient options while in the ordering queue.
The Interactive Allergy Menus were developed and customized for Quiznos by Gipsee, Inc. (www.gipsee.com) a Colorado company that develops and customizes restriction-based dining solutions for restaurants, schools, universities and other related segments.
The website based Interactive Allergy Menu feature can be accessed by customers on Quiznos’ website under the ‘Menu’ tab (www.quiznos.com/menu/restaurant). Customers may also access the feature on any smartphone by entering www.quiznos.com on their mobile browser.
Quiznos attempts to provide ingredient information regarding its products that is as complete as possible. The information contained in the tools is based on standard product formulations. Variations may occur due to differences in suppliers, ingredient substitutions, recipe revisions, and/or product production at the restaurant. Some menu items may not be available at all restaurants; test products, test formulations or regional items may not be included. All items are prepared in common areas and may contain trace amounts of ingredients contained in other products.
