RestaurantOps Launches FrontofHouse Mobile App - the Slack for Restaurants

RestaurantOps is releasing a free version of their mobile application.  Named Front of House, it allows employees to find their place of work and communicate to coworkers who are already signed up.

RestaurantOps is an employee scheduling and HR platform targeted towards restaurants.  The release of FrontOfHouse marks their first foray into freemium territory.

“We’ve found that millennials are more likely to use our app actively.” mentioned Carlos, the founder of RestaurantOps.  “By providing them a free way to do so, we hope to show managers the advantages of having a mobile communication platform within their restaurant.”

Operating in a similar way as Slack, RestaurantOps hopes employee use will drive adoption amongst restaurant managers.  Instead of using company emails, like Slack, users subscribe to their working location.  Once subscribed to their place of work, users can communicate with other users at that location without any management intervention.

The app was built from the ground up with hourly workers in mind.   In addition to sending messages and text, Front of House allows users to view a photograph of their weekly calendar, as well as Swap and Trade Shifts.  Although there are some notification capabilities for management, managers will have to upgrade to the paid version in order to control shift swaps and communications.

Front of House is available on both Android and iOS.
