The Big Salad expands Michigan presence with latest franchisee in Oakland CountyThe new year will kick off with a new restaurant opening in Commerce Township as The Big Salad announces its latest, and seventh Michigan franchisee.

Sandra LaFrance, a Commerce Township resident, together with her husband, Craig, plan to open The Big Salad’s newest location at 3050 Union Lake Road, Commerce Township, with an official target opening scheduled for January 2018.

Sandra LaFrance, a former elementary school teacher, will run the restaurant’s day-to-day operations, with support from husband Craig, a self-employed accountant.

“I see us offering a quick, healthy dining choice in a community-based, friendly atmosphere,” Sandra says. “We specifically chose Commerce Township because we wanted to be involved and connected with our community. We see it as a community gathering place that offers healthy food in a clean, pleasant atmosphere.”

Drawing on her education background, Sandra is also interested in becoming involved with area schools through business education programs and employment experiences at the new Big Salad location.

Customers visiting the Commerce Township location will not only enjoy The Big Salad’s well-known healthy and popular fresh food menu of salads, fresh-made sandwiches and wraps, and soup options, but also enjoy smoothies and specialty coffee drinks, according to President John Bornoty.

“This location will be our first retail site to offer these new drink options, which we have been testing for a couple of years. The response has been very positive,” said Bornoty. “Our goal is to make The Big Salad a place to sit and relax while enjoying everything from great salads to an iced coffee.”

Customers will be able to choose from a variety of smoothies made from fresh fruits and vegetables, along with iced coffee, cappuccino, espresso, latté and frozen coffee drinks. Bornoty added that if the public’s response to the new menu items continues to be positive, all current and future locations will feature a coffee and smoothie bar.

Since opening its first location in 2008, The Big Salad has allowed people to make their meal their own. Through thoughtful planning, The Big Salad chefs are equipped to prepare more than 17 million possible iceberg, romaine or spinach salad combinations for customers right at the point of purchase with a choice of 40 toppings and 30 dressings. Additionally, The Big Salad offers a plethora of fresh sandwich and soup options, as well as putting any salad into a wrap. Currently, The Big Salad can be found in Ann Arbor (two locations), Grosse Pointe Woods, Novi, Troy, Charlotte – all in Michigan, Richmond, Texas, and now in Spring, Texas. The restaurant chain has plans to open 100 stores in strategically located metro areas across the country in the next 10 years. Learn more at http://www.thebigsalad.net.
