UFood Restaurant Group Inc. has announced that when they open their first of three locations at the Aberdeen Proving Ground military base in Maryland, they’ll introduce a new healthier way for troops to build value into their diets – it’s called “Smart Meal Deals”. A “Smart Meal Deal” is created by choosing any item on the menu (at an a la carte price), then adding one of fivefresh sides, like baked UnFries™, Steamed Broccoli, Black Beans, Whole Grain Brown Rice or Sweet Potato Mash, along with a choice of bottled water or fountain beverage – all for just $2.49 added to the a la carte price.
The “Smart Meal Deal” approach provides great taste, solid value and importantly – healthier choices. UFood sees this initiative as taking the lead in building better value for people by giving them healthier options and more control at a great price. UFood’s “Smart Meal Deal” will also address Washington’s desire to improve eating standards in the military.
Recently, the White House and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs announced changes to the menus of 1,100 dining halls at military bases last month. The move will adjust the Pentagon’s nutritional standards for the first time in 20 years, bringing more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and better food choices to American military in the coming months.
UFood Grill’s Chairman and CEO, George Naddaff stated, “We see the new Smart Meal Deal approach as a natural extension of our better-for-you menu. It’s just that now, you can create the value that’s right for you – by simply choosing the healthier side you prefer. This approach will make us unlike most fast-food places that only offer fries in a Value Meal. Now you can choose. And we have plenty of options to choose from. It’s a perfect solution for the military – and addresses the general public’s needs as well.”
