Veteran Subway Owner and Former Checkers Manager Boldly Expands Checkers in the Northeast

Legendary quick service drive-thru chain awards Gupreet Singh with deal to develop Checkers restaurants in Connecticut.

Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. (Checkers), the largest double drive-thru chain in the United States, has announced plans to expand into Connecticut with its new signing with Gupreet (Goldie) Singh to open new restaurants. The longtime Checkers shift-manager and Subway owner will lead growth in the state, a previously underrepresented market for the burger brand.

“This signing shows the Checkers’ brand is attracting entrepreneurs who see opportunity to grow the brand in states with open territory for restaurant expansion,” Jennifer Durham, Vice President of Franchise Development of Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. said. “Our growth in the Northeast has been a huge success thus far, and we’re excited to have Goldie continue momentum by spearheading the new brand expansion in Connecticut. We’re confident his broad restaurant experience and his Checkers management experience will be an invaluable asset to ensure the brand does well in the state.”

Singh managed a high-traffic Checkers in Manhattan’s Financial District since 2009. The location was the first inline Checkers restaurant and attracted some of the highest volume of customers seen by the company. Additionally, Singh’s restaurant portfolio includes owning and operating a Subway restaurant and a casual dining pizza concept, all adding value to his projected success with the Checkers brand.

“I’ve been in the restaurant industry for a long time and I’m looking forward to diving into new territory and experiencing Checkers from an owner’s perspective,” Singh said. “Checkers is a value-focused concept offering great food served up by great people. I’m very excited to expand the brand in Connecticut and serve many more hungry guests.”

Checkers continues to add craveable menu selections and introduce daring flavors to its fans. Options such as Loaded Potato Skins, Cold Creations and the original Big Buford® aim to bring the freshest ingredients and boldest flavors to hungry guests. The company continues to innovate, and remains true to its commitment to provide crazy good food at an exceptional value.

“The Checkers franchise opportunity continues to draw interest from seasoned restaurant operators who see the constant menu innovation and growth opportunities in new markets as being a recipe for success,” Durham said. “As this new development presents a unique opportunity for Checkers to build restaurants in a state with untapped growth potential, the brand expects more restaurateurs to rise up in the state and join its franchisee ranks.”

Checkers continues to grow nationally with opportunities for ownership available in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, New York and Washington D.C, among other cities.
