Whiskey Cake Hosts Repeal Day Celebration

‘20’s-‘30’s Era Costume Contest, Pre-Prohibition style cocktails on tap for Dec. 5

Whiskey Cake Hosts Repeal Day CelebrationFew dates in American history were greeted with as much jubilation as December 5, 1933…the day the 18th Amendment was repealed and Prohibition was ended.

Now known as Repeal Day, Dec. 5 has become an annual tradition at Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar. You might even say it’s our favorite day of the year!

Unlike St. Patrick’s Day or Cinco de Mayo, Repeal Day is a day that all Americans have a part in observing, because it’s written into our Constitution. December 5th marks a return to the rich traditions of craft fermentation and distillation, the legitimacy of the American bartender as a contributor to the culinary arts and the responsible enjoyment of alcohol as a sacred social custom.

In honor of this most spirited of American holidays, Whiskey Cake will be serving up a wide selection of pre-Prohibition style cocktails at special prices, using bartending techniques created at the turn of the 20th century.

Repeal Day craft cocktail specials include:

  • French 75 – Made with Bombay Sapphire, lemon, simple and champagne
  • Bacardi Cocktail – Bacardi Superior, house made grenadine and lime
  • Gin Rickey – Bombay Sapphire, lime and soda
  • Whiskey Sour – Old Forester bourbon, lemon and champagne

In addition to the handcrafted drink specials, Whiskey Cake servers will be dressed in period attire and the restaurant will be hosting a rousing 20’s – 30’s Era Costume Contest. The best-dressed patrons in the house will win a Repeal Day Swag Bag, featuring a collection of “boozy” items from local distilleries and breweries valued at $125. The fun begins at 5 p.m., and won’t end until closing time.

Whiskey Cake is renowned for serving up tasty farm-to-kitchen dishes and cocktails out of its “from scratch only” kitchen and bar. Microwave? Never heard of it. Whiskey Cake uses slow-cooking methods on a live wood grill, smoker and spit because everything tastes better that way. And all that goodness is served while you kick your feet up in a rocking chair, while dining at a fancy table or while relaxing out on the porch.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar has three locations – in Plano and San Antonio, TX, and Oklahoma City. Visit whiskey-cake.com for hours, directions, food and drinks menu and more information.
