Integral to Ball Ground Elementary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) Program are project based visits in which key learnings in the STEM are put to practical use by the students in real working environments.
Under the leadership of Mr. Doug Knot, Principal and Mrs. Joy Silk, Fifth Grade Teacher and STEM Coordinator, 50+ students visit Awnex where they experience the key elements of STEM working together to design and manufacture architectural enhances such as Canopies, Awnings, Drive Thru Order Point Canopies, and signs for the Quick Service Restaurant industry for leaders such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, Corner Baker, Hooters, & Krystal.
Mrs. Silk commented that her students were “just thrilled with the overall learning experience at Awnex and returned to the classroom with renewed vigor and elevated interest in their studies.” She went on to say “that at Awnex they received first-hand practical experience of how math is used with engineering to create products the children are familiar with such as the McDonald’s fixtures.” Doug Knot shared “how fortunate we are to have a partner like Awnex who is dedicated to the STEM program and its core principles.”
The success of the relationship between Ball Ground Elementary and Awnex lead to the school naming Awnex their Partner of the Year.
