Bevacco, a Charming Italian Restaurant in Brooklyn Heights With All-Day Appeal

Neighborhood residents, tourists and — as a recent spotting of actress Anne Hathaway demonstrates — celebrities are making their way to Bevacco, an Italian restaurant in Brooklyn Heights, to enjoy all-day dining in genuine European fashion.

A day at Bevacco begins easily with a leisurely breakfast or a cappuccino and warm cornetto on-the-go. Executive Chef Antonio Morichini, who refined his craft at Michelin-starred restaurants in Rome, has converted many morning diners to this Italian version of a croissant.

Lunchtime brings insalate, panini and superb pizzas with crackling crusts and toppings such as Gorgonzola with arugula and truffle oil. The late afternoon period called Intermezzo offers select choices for a time of day when a glass of wine and savory morsel is most welcome.

Chef Morichini’s imagination and skill shine at dinner. His spring menu evokes a temperate night on Rome’s Via Veneto with dishes such as Crema di Piselli e Capesante (warm green pea puree with scallops and lavender oil) and Tagliolini al Nero di Sepia (black ink pasta with shrimp, artichoke, mint and pecorino Market-driven additions (think asparagus, peas and fava beans) will grace the menu as spring moves into summer.

An industrial-chic atmosphere and edgy cocktails at the bar express a contemporary sensibility while a discerning list of Italian wines, beers, liquori and amari represent the traditional. Mixing muddled strawberries, white rum, elderflower liqueur, lime juice, basil and cherry bark vanilla, manager and mixologist Loris Pignoletti’s Dolce Vita cocktail distills spring and the pleasure of Bevacco into a glass.

From morning to evening, locals and tourists are fancying Bevacco.

Bevacco is the most ambitious venture of veteran restaurateurs Peter Sclafani and Kristen Hallett. The husband and wife team also own Brooklyn’s Provini, Bar Toto and Bar Tano.

From Manhattan, Bevacco is the first subway stop in Brooklyn and is a short stroll from one of New York City’s most romantic spots, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. For reservations, call 718-624-1444. Bevacco is located at 60 Henry Street, Brooklyn, NY.
