Blue Oak BBQ is fanning the flames of culinary growth inside Huntsville’s MidCity District, serving Southern-style BBQ with Crescent City flair. Now open at 1000 Mid City Drive, the New Orleans-based restaurant features everything from slow-smoked spare ribs, pulled pork and brisket to wings, gumbo, crispy pork belly cracklins, chili-glazed Brussels sprouts and spicy chicken sandwiches.
Led by co-owners and culinary ambassadors, Ronnie Evans and Philip Moseley, Blue Oak BBQ’s menu mirrors the Big Easy in its diversity and creativity, drawing on International flavor profiles, as well as those from across the Southeast like Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, North and South Carolina and naturally, North Alabama.
“We see ourselves like a big pot of gumbo and take that approach in the way we cook, drawing inspiration from all regions and walks of life,” Evans said. “Our specialty is taking dishes that everyone knows and loves, and preparing them in a way that’s a bit more interesting. Joining Huntsville’s growing culinary scene is an honor and we can’t wait to share our food with this community.”
Similar to the menu, the architecture and interior design of Blue Oak BBQ finds its influence steeped in New Orleans culture with distinct elements found in MidCity, the French Quarter, Marigny, Bywater, and the Warehouse District. Guests can also enjoy a spacious patio with outdoor seating, more than a dozen TVs, a 12-foot projector screen and a large walk-up bar area.

Blue Oak BBQ is brought to you by New Orleans-natives Ronnie Evans and Philip Moseley (collectively they sometimes go by Phron), who set out to become New Orleans’ foremost purveyors of fine smoked meats. savory sauces and craveable sides. The duo formed Blue Oak in 2012 when Evans and Moseley decided to start smoking meats in a small pop-up inside of the Uptown New Orleans dive bar, Grits. While at Grits, Evans and Moseley gained a cult following for their late-night bar fare and barbecue. In 2014, the duo expanded and transitioned to a new location inside Chickie Wah-Wah where they served full time and focused on developing and perfecting their barbecue. Four years and thousands of pounds of meat later, the duo graduated to their own brick-and-mortar location in 2016 at 900 N. Carrollton Ave in Mid-City. Since opening, the duo has made a name for themselves serving up some of the city’s finest smoked meats, sides, and sandwiches. Now, with a Hogs for the Cause Championship under their belts, the Blue Oak team continues to pave the way for carnivorous excellence in New Orleans and beyond. Come visit!
