Bread & Butter Concepts Introduces Taco Concept

There’s a new taqueria coming to Westwood, and it’s destined to become a fast favorite. It’s to be located at 500 COUNTY LINE ROAD in KANSAS CITY, KANSAS (across the street from the original Oklahoma Joe’s Barbecue), is the newest concept from the brains behind Bread & Butter Concepts (B&BC), the local restaurant group that brought you BRGR Kitchen + Bar, Urban Table, and Gram & Dun. B&BC is obsessed with providing the spice of life in a relaxed environment without compromising value or hospitality, and it shows in their ongoing ventures.

The new restaurant will be called Big Papi Taco, and looks to establish a new category of neighborhood taco shop in Kansas City, producing casual comfort and extreme value in a unique environment. It’s called a taco shop, taco bar, taco joint or taqueria, and it will bring guests different flavors from Mexican streets and marketplaces where homemade “street-style” tacos are created. The opportunity to eat “real deal” tacos in a casual, independent, not-your-standard-Mexican restaurant will be available to all at Big Papi Tacos, where they will use traditional slow cooked, smoked and braised meats from Mexico, such as Barbacoa, Cochinita Pibil and Birria, atop fresh homemade tortillas, creating simple ethnic street food while focusing on freshness and exquisite flavor.

The new concept seeks to become an all-day taqueria, a local hangout, and a part of the neighborhood and community, and will provide backyard atmosphere on the corner, styled after a roadside café from the 60 & 70s, and combined with a street marketplace feel. For those on the run, Big Papi Taco will have a walk-up, to-go window with morning & late night hours. For those with a bit more time there will be comfortable spaces to sit, relax, and listen to cool country-
style music.

The restaurant will offer homey, relaxed dining inside & out, reflecting the traditional appreciation of the outdoors and great music. Reminiscent of long summer nights at the drive in, you’ll find picnic and patio tables and bench seating along with fire pits & flowers. The interior will combine natural brick, wood accents and iron along with colorful distressed walls and murals of small-town-Mexico. A layering of unexpected elements will work together, giving patrons of Big Papi Tacos a design-rich, entertaining, culinary experience that will create
great memories.

Owner and Restaurateur Alan Gaylin says of the new venture, “We aspire for the restaurant to be a place for the people of midtown Kansas City. It’s the type of establishment people will patronize knowing they can expect something familiar. It’s your backyard hangout in the Westwood neighborhood of Kansas City.” Gaylin expects a March, 2013 opening date, and is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Westwood Community.
