Bring Your Lip Smackin’ Appetite to Dickey’s in Athens

Sassy Tumblin and her husband Trippy will be opening their second Dickey’s location tomorrow, March 27. The first 100 customers will receive a free pulled pork sandwich. The couple’s new location is at 810 Hawthorne Avenue.

“We are so excited to expand our love of barbecue to Athens!” said Sassy Tumblin.

The Tumblins currently own the Dickey’s in Watkinsville located at 2131 Hog Mountain Road which they acquired in January 2010.

“The phones have been ringing off the hook at our Watkinsville location,” said Sassy Tumblin. “People keep asking when the Athens location will open and we can finally we say it’s open!”

The couple’s new location is on the corner of Hawthorne Avenue and Oglethorpe Avenue, right across the street from the YMCA. The store hours are 11a.m. to 9p.m. daily.

Texas-based Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened in 1941 and began franchising in 1994. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is well-known for their hot pit-smoked signature meats, complimentary ice cream and the big yellow cups. The quick-serve barbecue chain has grown exponentially over the years.
