The wood fired taste born in the Carolinas is just blocks away from the University of Georgia. Restaurant will be open to 2 a.m. six days a week serving wood fired pizzas on house made dough, as well as salads, pastas complemented craft beers, wines, gluten-free and vegan options.
The oven at Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is stoked up and ready to introduce Athens to its favorite new destination for wood fired pizza … and late night snacks.
The restaurant, which specializes in pizzas built on scratch made dough and adorned with a wide array of fresh ingredients, is owned by father and son, Alan and Eric Overcash, and managed by Bradwell Lane. It’s located at 135 W. Washington Street on the ground level of a new parking deck just two blocks from the University of Georgia North Campus. For the Overcashes, the opening of this new restaurant is the culmination of years of hard work.
“We purchased our franchise license from Brixx more than three years ago and have spent that time looking for the perfect location,” said Alan Overcash. “After visiting Athens, we knew we were home and couldn’t wait to get started.”
The founders of Brixx agree that Athens is an ideal fit. “The Overcashes are experienced restaurateurs who know how to provide guests with incredible food and customer service,” said Jeff Van Dyke, managing partner and co-founder of Brixx Wood Fired Pizza. “Our goal at Brixx has always been to become a welcome part of the neighborhood and an active community partner. I know Alan and Eric are excited to do just that in Athens.”
The Athens location offers 136 seats, including an outdoor patio. It will employ a staff of just under 50. The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, offering late night specials 7 days a week. The first Brixx opened in Charlotte, N.C., in 1998.
From day one, the menu has featured fresh salads, pastas, sandwiches and, of course, pizza cooked in a wood-burning brick oven and complemented by 24 craft beers on tap & 14 wines by the glass.
Brixx appeals to a wide array of palates and dietary needs, offering gluten-free dough, vegetarian and vegan items. The menu is accented by signature house made items, including:
- Traditional and Whole Wheat Dough
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Focaccia Bread
- Tiramisu
Athens is the 25th Brixx location in United States and the third to open in Georgia in the last nine months. The other two are Peachtree City (opened in September 2013) and Marietta (opened in February 2014).
