There’s no slowing down for Captain D’s!
The leading fast casual seafood restaurant continues its climb and achieved 5.2 percent same-store-sales growth for the second quarter of 2015, marking the company’s 15th consecutive quarter of positive growth.
RestaurantNews.com recently sat down with CEO Phil Greifeld for insight into the brand’s explosive growth and what the future looks like for Captain D’s.
How many restaurants does Captain D’s operate today, and what markets are you targeting for franchise and corporate expansion?
We currently operate 512 restaurants, and are primarily targeting markets in the Southeast, Midwest, and Texas. We are continually looking for both high quality real estate sites and top quality franchisees.
What is driving Captain D’s continued growth and success?
A primary driving force behind our continued success is our ongoing menu innovation, including the addition of new fire-grilled options made possible from the recent installation of the new grilling system. These broilers are proprietary to Captain D’s and have flames from both the bottom and the top to ensure quality and quick grilling. We’ve also unveiled our restaurant redesign, which features a vibrant coastal atmosphere and an upgraded dining experience with plate ware and silverware. This new “beach image” brings a contemporary, upscale and welcoming feel to our restaurant where guests can still enjoy the level of hospitality for which they’ve come to know us.
What sets the Captain D’s brand apart from its competitors?
A fundamental aspect of the Captain D’s brand is our unwavering commitment to serving freshly prepared, high-quality seafood at an affordable price in a welcoming atmosphere, and we are thrilled that doing what we do best translated into such a strong second quarter. In the midst of continual menu innovation and restaurant re-imaging, we have remained true to our core values and guest-centric culture. This is reflected in our ongoing success. We look forward to maintaining this momentum as we head into the second half of the year, continuing to demonstrate why Captain D’s is a fast casual leader.
What do you hope to achieve in the next five years?
Our primary objective is to continue identifying better, faster ways to grow this brand in a high quality and successful manner while simultaneously looking for new, spirited franchisees to join us in our drive to catapult our presence nationwide and serve our products to more consumers. We have a tremendous opportunity for growth in new markets, and we’re eager to leverage the momentum we’ve had over the last few years to further establish Captain D’s as the fast-casual seafood leader and number one seafood franchise in America.
What are the franchisee requirements?
We are seeking multi-unit operators with business, management and foodservice and/or restaurant experience. Franchisee candidates should have a passion for and commitment to exceptional customer service, as well as a minimum net worth of $1,000,000 and $350,000 in liquid assets. Depending on whether you build or lease, franchisees can expect the total cost of investment for one restaurant to be approximately $771,000 – $1,003,000, including an initial franchise fee of $25,000.
