The celebration of National Ice Cream Month is in full swing in July at Dairy Queen restaurants as the system, a Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B) company, debuts the new Lemon Meringue Pie Blizzard Treat as the Blizzard of the Month and continues to offer the blockbuster S’mores Blizzard Treat, S’mores Royal Shake and S’mores Frozen Hot Chocolate.
The Lemon Meringue Pie Blizzard Treat is a tantalizing blend of lemon meringue pie filling, crunchy golden pie pieces and creamy DQ vanilla soft-serve crowned with a meringue-flavored fluffy whipped topping. A unique campfire flavor in a cup, the S’mores Blizzard Treat is a delicious combination of marshmallow-filled chocolate bars and Honey Maid graham crackers blended with creamy DQsignature vanilla soft serve. The new S’mores Royal Shake and S’mores Frozen Hot Chocolate also are on the DQ menu. All three delectable treats are crowned with fluffy whipped topping.
Both Blizzard Treats are available in four sizes, including the popular Mini. S’mores Royal Shakes and Frozen Hot Chocolate beverages are available in three sizes.
“If you are a fan of summer, you are a fan of the Dairy Queen system,” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ). “We continue to roll out epic food and treat choices such as the S’mores and Lemon Meringue Pie Blizzard Treats, our Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies and Julius Originals and our new $5 Buck Lunch. Summer is always a special time for us and we want to share that with our fans, particularly as we celebrate National Ice Cream Month in July and National Ice Cream Day on July 21.”
Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies have recently been introduced to most Dairy Queen restaurants. They are available in Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry, Mango Pineapple, Berry-Pom, Orangeberry and Piña Colada flavors with a protein or banana boost that can be added. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies are blended fresh to order with real fruit, low-fat yogurt and no artificial flavors. Orange Julius Light Smoothies also are made with real fruit, no artificial flavors or sweeteners and contain 170 calories or less in a small.
In addition to signature treats and smoothies, DQ Grill & Chill restaurants and other DQ locations offer delicious and unique food items including Premium GrillBurgers, Chicken Strip Baskets, Iron Grilled Sandwiches, Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads, Shrimp Baskets, Quesadillas, Chili Cheese Dogs and more. The new $5 Buck Lunch is available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, three-piece Chicken Strip lunch or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard Treat, such as S’mores. The offer may vary in Texas.
Many Blizzard Treat flavors, including S’mores and Lemon Meringue Pie, also can also be made into delicious DQ Cakes, perfect for Independence Day; National Ice Cream Day on July 21; summer picnics; and other special events, such as birthdays and anniversaries.
The Dairy Queen system began blending simple combinations of fruits, cookies, chocolates, nuts and candies with DQ soft serve in 1985 to create the signature Blizzard Treat. The iconic treat has created the served upside-down Blizzard culture and since then, one-of-a-kind flavors such as S’mores, Chocolate Candy Shop and Confetti Cake have delighted Dairy Queen fans as part of the featured Blizzard of the Month program, which began in 2003.
The incredible popularity of the Blizzard brand is what led the Dairy Queen system to initiate the Blizzard Fan Club in 2005 and the Dairy Queen Facebook fan page in 2008. Today, the Fan Club is 4.3 million members strong while the DQ Facebook fan page has more than 6.2 million friends.
