Apple Pie? Pumpkin Pie?
Dairy Queen to settle debate on fan favorite in September by debuting the Apple Pie Blizzard Treat and featuring the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Treat
As the fall season kicks off with college and professional football rivalries, Dairy Queen, a Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B) company, is launching a different kind of competition this September.
Beginning September 2, Dairy Queen will introduce an Apple Pie Blizzard Treat as the September Blizzard of the Month and bring back fan favorite, the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Treat, in a battle of two of America’s most popular pie flavors.
Available at participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill restaurants in September, the new Apple Pie Blizzard Treat is a sweet blend of real Granny Smith apple pie filling, cinnamon pie pieces and creamy DQ vanilla soft serve. The Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Treat is a delectable combination of pumpkin pie mix and crunchy pie pieces blended with creamy DQ vanilla soft serve.
Both Blizzard Treats are available in four sizes, including the popular Mini, and also can be served in a waffle cone.
“This will be an epic, albeit flavorful, poll to find out whether fans prefer apple pie or pumpkin pie,” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ). “These are two of the best culinary flavors for fall and we just added the DQ touch by serving them as Blizzard Treats. Let the battle for pie supremacy begin!”
Many Blizzard Treat flavors, including Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie, can easily be made into DQ Cakes which are perfect for the first day of fall and other special events, such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Dairy Queen began blending simple combinations of cookies, chocolates, nuts, fruits and candies with DQ soft serve in 1985 to create the signature Blizzard Treat. The iconic treat has created the served upside-down Blizzard culture and since then, one-of-a-kind flavors such as Chocolate Candy Shop and Confetti Cake have delighted Dairy Queen fans as part of the featured Blizzard of the Month program, which began in 2003.
