Dairy Queen Opens 100th Restaurant in Mexico

Today, the Dairy Queensystem, part of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B), opened its 100th location in Mexico and has plans to open 15 additional restaurants by the end of 2012.

John Gainor, president and CEO of International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ), joined franchisee Javier Gandara Jr. from DAQU DE SONORA S A de C V for the grand opening of the 100th store, located in the city of Leon.

“This is an auspicious occasion for the Dairy Queen brand and we are very happy to share this celebration with our international partners in Mexico,” said Gainor. “Mexico is our fourth largest international market and greatly enhances our global presence as a leader in the treat and quick-serve industry.”

The new Leon treat destination will feature all of the soft-serve products that have made the Dairy Queen brand an icon in the industry, such as Blizzard Flavor Treats, MooLattéfrozen coffee-flavored beverages, soft-serve cones, sundaes, Blizzard Cakes and the full line of fruit-blended beverages.

The Dairy Queen system opened its first treat location in Mexico in the 1960s, making it the third country into which the brand expanded outside of the U.S. Franchisee DAQU DE SONORA S A de C V now owns and operates more than 34 Dairy Queen locations throughout central and northern Mexico.

“We rely on strong alliances with our international partners and look forward to bringing our great line-up of Dairy Queen treats to more people as we continue expansion in Mexico,” said Gainor.
