Container is Simpler for Guests and Reduces Landfill Waste
Eco-Products has teamed up with La Tour Café to introduce an innovative container that is better for customers, and better for the environment. The restaurant chain hopes to inspire others to reduce landfill waste as well.
La Tour’s new container does double duty: Guests can eat from the tray while dining in, or use it as a takeout container for their meal at home. Even better: The containers are made from wheat straw — a 100 percent renewable resource.
One product doing double-duty means less waste going to the landfill, and wheat straw can be grown again and again.
“By offering a dine-in tray that can also serve as a takeout container, we’re simplifying life for our customers and for our employees. And we’re reducing waste at the same time,” said Trung Lam, co-founder of La Tour Café. “It’s a win for everyone.”
La Tour Café, a fast casual restaurant founded in Hawaii in 2011, specializes in sandwiches, burgers, flatbread pizzas, and French macarons. The chain has five locations with plans to expand in the coming years.
The restaurant’s owners are hoping its new container inspires other restaurants to find innovative ways to cut down on waste as well.
“We’re all in this together,” Lam said.
The special container, specially designed by Eco-Products for La Tour Café, features vent holes and ridges that help keep food warm and fresh.
“This custom design ensures we provide the best quality of food regardless of when or where it’s eaten,” Brandon Lam, co-founder of La Tour Café. “We want our guests to enjoy our food at home as much as they do at our restaurants.”
The containers offer numerous benefits. They’re durable, grease resistant, freezer and microwave save, and meet ASTM’s high standards for compostability. They’re also made from wheat straw, which was once considered a waste product and burned by farmers.
“These containers are stylish, strong and sustainable,” said Sarah Martinez, marketing director for Eco-Products. “La Tour Café is truly ahead of the game here, and we are proud to be working with them. They are committed to creating a better dining experience and a better world.”
