Free sopapillas, new happy hour specials also part of festivities in Wichita Falls
El Fenix is celebrating its 97th anniversary, but their guests are getting all the presents!
The festivities begin on Aug. 31, when El Fenix rolls out its all-new 2 for $20 three-course combo menu exclusively at its Wichita Falls location. Guests start by sharing their choice of a large guacamole or bowl of queso. Each guest may then select one entrée from among six popular dishes – including the Enchilada Dinner, Juarez Plate and Mexican Cobb Salad. To finish the meal on a sweet note, each guest will receive one warm, freshly made sopapilla, with honey, for dessert. (Two for $20 menu available at Wichita Falls location only. Tax and tip not included. No substitutions.)
Also this month, the Wichita Falls restaurant is introducing new Happy Hour drink and appetizer specials every day from 3 – 7 p.m., starting at just $2. And from Sept. 13 – 20, El Fenix’s official birthday week, guests at all 22 El Fenix restaurants will receive a free sopapilla with their meal. (Dine-in only. Limit one free sopapilla per entrée ordered.)
“El Fenix has had a proud and storied history in North Texas, ever since we first introduced Tex-Mex cuisine to the public,” said Darius Gilanfar, COO of Firebird Restaurant Group, owner of the El Fenix chain. “As we approach our centennial year, we wanted to offer our guests some great specials in appreciation for their continued loyalty and support. After all, our 97th anniversary is an exciting occasion we can all celebrate!”
But wait…there’s more! Guests are also invited to register to win Free El Fenix for a Year as part of the chain’s 97th Anniversary Sweepstakes. Simply register at ElFenix.com/register. Deadline for registration is Sept. 20, 2015. Visit Elfenix.com/rules for official rules.

El Fenix was founded in 1918 by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant who opened a small restaurant on the corner of Griffin Street and McKinney Avenue in Dallas. Often, at its main location in downtown Dallas, the lunchtime line of patrons spills out the front door and down Alamo Street. El Fenix is renowned as the originator of “Tex-Mex cuisine” and the restaurant’s Wednesday “Enchilada Dinner Special,” which features two cheese enchiladas, refried beans, and rice. Acquired by Firebird Restaurant Group in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature core menu and products. In 2010 Nation’s Restaurant News named El Fenix one of its 50 All-American Icons, “restaurants that stole our hearts and stood the test of time.” For more information and locations, visit ElFenix.com.
