Freddy’s 87th Birthday

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has announced a special promotion celebrating the company’s co-founder, namesake, and true American hero, Freddy Simon. In honor of Freddy’s 87th birthday, a special offer is available at participating Freddy’s locations nationwide—87¢ custard cones or dishes. The offer is available through Wednesday, February 29th.

“In our company, we count ourselves as the lucky beneficiaries of Freddy’s experiences and philosophies on life. He embodies the values and era that our brand was born to personify,” remarked Bill Simon, President and co-founder of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers as well as Freddy Simon’s son. “We are proud to mark another amazing year with our Freddy’s family across the country and with the guests who have made our restaurants successful.”

Freddy Simon spent his professional career in the hospitality industry where he credits his ever-present smile and solid work ethic for his career successes. He grew up on a farm near Colwich, KS and signed up for the infantry in the U.S. Army at the first opportunity. Japan had just bombed Pearl Harbor. Freddy was barely 18 years old but felt compelled to join the military and do his part for our country’s security. After years of fighting in places around the Pacific Rim and the devastating loss of many of his fellow soldiers, Freddy watched from a nearby warship as the Japanese Emperor signed the full surrender to end the war. He was later awarded a Purple Heart for his service to the Country.

When Freddy returned home after his tour of service, he attended college at Wichita State University where he played varsity basketball and graduated with a degree in accounting after three quick years of study. He worked for the same Wichita distribution company for 56 years while raising his family. Freddy believes he is “the luckiest man in the world.” He is an active participant in veterans groups and WWII Memorials across the state, a long-time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, a proud father of six, a grandfather of 14, and a great-grandfather of eight. Freddy will celebrate his birthday lunch with his sister and other members of his family at the Freddy’s Plazzio location in East Wichita.

Co-founded by Scott Redler and Bill, Randy and Freddy Simon, Freddy’s opened its first location on west 21st Street in Wichita during 2002, offering a unique combination of cooked-to-order steakburgers, Chicago dogs, and other savory items along with its signature desserts prepared with premium frozen custard made fresh throughout the day in each store. Freddy’s founders operate six locations in the Wichita Metro area, two in the Kansas City market, and one in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fifty-one franchise units serve other areas of Kansas and Oklahoma as well as Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas. An additional 35 locations are in various stages of development. Freddy’s was listed as the Fifth Fastest Growing Chain Restaurant in the United States and Canada in 2010 by Chain Store Guide, a sister publication to Nation’s Restaurant News. More recently, Freddy’s was recognized by Technomics as the 5th fastest growing burger concept in the country. In the local community of the company’s founding, Freddy’s is a recipient of the 2011 Best in Business Award from the Wichita Business Journal. In 2011, Freddy’s was named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 and #4 on the Franchise Chatter list of ‘Under the Radar Franchises’ for 2012.
