Go Loco, a New Mexican Fast Food Concept, on the Highway to Growth

Go Loco, a new fast food Mexican restaurant and drive through, will open its first location on April 9 in Alvarado, Texas.

Building on the popularity of local taquerias and the new wave of Mexican fast casual concepts, Go Loco offers a much greater variety of options for the fast food diner.  Street tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, salads and nachos ($5.79-$5.99) are made with the customer’s choice of fillings  (including shredded beef barbacoa, chicken verde – green chile shredded chicken, smoky BBQ pulled pork that has been marinated in pineapple-chile sauce, seasoned ground beef, and avocado-black beans as a vegetarian option).  The customer then tops his menu item with a choice of exciting signature salsas and relishes.  The signature side dish is Chimayo Market Corn – roasted corn in a cup with cheese and chile sauce.  Go Loco’s flavors, ingredients and cooking methods set it apart from the typical Mexican fast food restaurant.  Fresh limonadas (4 fruit flavors – $2.29 and $2.99) and dulce de leche soft serve ice cream ($1.99) round out the experience.  Many products are sourced from local farms and vendors, adding to their freshness and supporting the local economy.

Go Loco is a concept that is targeted to underserved Texas markets near major highways.  The menu’s artisan approach and great value will appeal to the local community as well as the traveler looking for a distinctive meal.  The restaurant serves a special breakfast menu and is open throughout the day (lunch and dinner).

The new Alvarado location will have a pre-opening charity event on April 7 (by invitation).  All sales for the night will be donated to the Alvarado Band Booster Club.  All Go Locos will feature Corn for a Cause – a charitable program that aims to support local programs through the sale of their distinctive Chimayo Market Corn ($1.99). Twenty-five cents of every corn sold will be donated to the identified charity.

Ali Sharaf, Jim Baron and David Pencsak own the Go Loco franchise.  Ali Sharaf is president of Victron Energy with over 180 travel centers throughout Texas.  Jim Baron is president of Blue Mesa Grill Restaurants (locations in the DFW area), and David Pencsak is an owner of TNT / Tacos and Tequila (Austin) and Ruby Tequilas’ Mexican Kitchen.  The Alvarado location is the first of several to be managed by Bob Hauser, one of the co-founders of Qdoba Mexican Grill.
