Seasonal burrito, enchiladas available starting Monday at all 22 restaurants
El Fenix may be rapidly approaching its 97th birthday, but the legendary restaurant chain still knows how to keep up with the latest culinary trends.
That’s why Tex-Mex lovers will find three flavorful new dishes featuring Hatch green chile – the seasonal pepper that’s all the rage this time of year – at their nearby El Fenix next month.
Beginning Monday, August 3, all 22 El Fenix restaurants will be showcasing the following limited-time menu offerings during their Hatch Chile Festival:
- Hatch Chile Pork Burrito – Slow-roasted pork rolled and grilled to golden-brown goodness, topped with green chile sauce, Hatch green chile and queso fresco. Served with rice and beans. (Priced at just $8.99)
- Hatch Chile & Queso Blanco Enchiladas – A twist on El Fenix’s world famous enchiladas, stuffed with a blend of Monterey Jack and Chihuahua cheeses, topped with green chile sauce, Hatch green chile and queso fresco. Served with rice & beans. ($9.99)
- Hatch Chile Stacked Crispy Chicken Enchiladas – Stacked hard-shell tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken, refried beans, guacamole and cheddar cheese, topped with green chile sauce, Hatch green chile and queso fresco. Served with rice & beans. ($10.99)
Chile lovers beware: The Hatch Chile Festival concludes on Labor Day, or until the inventory of this seasonal crop is depleted!

El Fenix was founded in 1918 by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant who opened a small restaurant on the corner of Griffin Street and McKinney Avenue in Dallas. Often, at its main location in downtown Dallas, the lunchtime line of patrons spills out the front door and down Alamo Street. El Fenix is renowned as the originator of “Tex-Mex cuisine” and the restaurant’s Wednesday “Enchilada Dinner Special,” which features two cheese enchiladas, refried beans, and rice. Acquired by Firebird Restaurant Group in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature core menu and products. In 2010 Nation’s Restaurant News named El Fenix one of its 50 All-American Icons, “restaurants that stole our hearts and stood the test of time.” For more information and locations, visit ElFenix.com.
