During this election year, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is preparing to celebrate National Frozen Custard Day with a campaign of its own. Frozen custard fans all over the country are being invited to vote for their favorite treat at Freddy’s Facebook page or via text message.
“Our guests are passionate when it comes to their favorite Freddy’s Frozen Custard sundaes and concretes,” said Bill Simon, Freddy’s CEO. “While everyone seems to agree that frozen custard is such a satisfying anytime treat and tastier than ice cream or yogurt, we wanted to give people the opportunity to publicly place their support behind their favorite flavor combination and lighten up a bit on the election year clamor.”
Visitors to Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers’ Facebook page between now and July 31 will be prompted to vote for their preferences on all types of custard treats. The voting will culminate in a tournament to elect America’s favorite. The tournament will feature Freddy’s five specialty custard treats: Signature Turtle, Peanut Butter Cup & Banana, Dirt n’ Worms, Hawaiian Delight or Chocolate Brownie Delight. Voting also can be done by texting “Turtle”, “Peanut”, “Worms”, “Delight” or “Brownie” to 55678.
Freddy’s will announce the “Undisputed Champion” on Facebook and in advertising to honor National Frozen Custard Day, celebrated each year on August 8th.
In the U.S., frozen custard can be traced to Coney Island, N.Y., and was introduced to the Midwest at the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. Frozen custard resembles ice cream but is richer and creamier thanks to a time-tested churning process that minimizes ice crystals and excess air.
Co-founded by Scott Redler and Bill, Randy and Freddy Simon, Freddy’s opened its first location on west 21st Street in Wichita during 2002, offering a unique combination of cooked-to-order steakburgers, Chicago dogs, and other savory items along with its signature desserts prepared with premium frozen custard made fresh throughout the day in each store. Freddy’s founders operate six locations in the Wichita Metro area and two in the Kansas City market. Sixty franchise units serve other areas of Kansas and Missouri as well as Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. In 2012, Freddy’s was included in Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 and QSR Magazine’s 10 Best Franchise Deals. Freddy’s has also been listed as the Fifth Fastest Growing Chain Restaurant in the United States and Canada by Chain Store Guide, a sister publication to Nation’s Restaurant News. Recently, Freddy’s was recognized by Technomics as the 5th fastest growing burger concept in the country. In the local community of the company’s founding, Freddy’s is a recipient of the 2011 Best in Business Award from the Wichita Business Journal and has repeatedly won first place Readers’ Choice Awards in several categories from the Wichita Eagle.
