Hooters calls on chicken wing enthusiasts to beat two million wing challenge with all-you-can-eat deal
Professional eating wonder Joey “Jaws” Chestnut once again claimed victory in record-breaking fashion at the Hooters World Wing Eating Championship Tuesday night, devouring 182 Hooters world-famous wings in 10 minutes. The champ is now setting his sights on National Chicken Wing Day, as Hooters issues a significant call-to-action for chicken wing enthusiasts across the nation to collectively eat two million wings in one day. In full support of this mission, Hooters is offering a $12.99 all-you-can-eat wing deal on Tuesday, July 29, at participating locations throughout the country.
Hooters commissioned Major League Eating (MLE) to officially sanction the Hooters World Wing Eating Championship, which took place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Chestnut was in the best form of his career and outperformed his fellow top-ranked professional eaters to surpass his previous chicken wing tally by three wings. Adrian “The Rabbit” Morgan finished second (174 wings) and Matt “Megatoad” Stonie took third (165). Chestnut perfected his wing-eating technique and remained focused until the final bell to clinch the coveted Hooters World Wing Eating Champion title for the third time in a row, as well as serious bragging rights and a record prize purse.
“We encourage all eaters – young and old, amateur and professional – to dine with Hooters on National Chicken Wing Day and help us accomplish our ultimate wing-eating challenge to America of two million wings collectively in one day,” said Andrew Pudduck, vice president of marketing, Hooters of America. “Come to Hooters and prove to us you’re a champ, not a chicken!”
Last year, America took down more than 1.5 million Hooters chicken wings during the zany wing holiday. This year, with the stakes higher than ever, Hooters has recruited famed former professional football coach Jon Gruden to help get the nation and now three-time Hooters World Wing Eating Champion Joey Chestnut fired up and ready for the big day in this comical video titled, “Jon Gruden Grills Joey Chestnut.”
Hooters will provide novelty wing-tally stickers to guests who accept the challenge on National Chicken Wing Day. Wing aficionados can also share their personal wing counts digitally by posting photos on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #StepIntoAwesome. The best Hooters National Chicken Wing Day moments will be featured on www.stepintoawesome.com. There will also be an official wing tally updated every hour on the Hooters Facebook page.
