The 2012 Kansas City Restaurant Week, scheduled for January 20-29, 2012, is on course to have its most successful year since entering the Kansas City dining scene in 2010. With 125 restaurants enrolled for the 2012 event, 24 more than in both previous years, Kansas City Restaurant Week has seen an increase in participating restaurants each of its three years, providing more dining options, menus, and neighborhoods to diners all across the metro area during the 10-day event. A new mobile app, compatible with the iPhone and Android operating systems, is now available for download, providing diners handheld accessibility to help plan their Restaurant Week visits. The mobile app will feature a complete list of participating restaurants and the full menus each restaurant will offer during the 2012 event. Diners will also be able to make reservations at participating restaurants directly from the mobile app via OpenTable.com. Additionally, mobile users will be able to jump to restaurants’ websites, place a direct phone call to participating restaurants and locate each restaurant on a Google map for simple planning and navigation. The Kansas City Restaurant Week mobile app was fully developed and programmed by Kansas City-based Aireal Mobile.
In addition to the mobile app, a new Kansas City Restaurant Week website launched in November with a full redesign and layout. The new website features the same user functions as the mobile app and also incorporates photography of actual dishes available during Restaurant Week. The 2012 Kansas City Restaurant Week, presented by Quintessential Wines and Young Beverage Company, will highlight a variety of cuisines with hundreds of menus for lunch and dinner that will be created by participating restaurants’ chefs and culinary staff. The prix fixe menus will offer various courses for lunch and dinner at $15.00 and $30.00, respectively. Ten percent of each Restaurant Week menu meal will again be donated to Harvesters – The Community Food Network, helping fight hunger in the Kansas City metro area. Last year, Kansas City Restaurant Week raised nearly $80,000, which translated to 400,000 meals provided to the hungry in Kansas City.
