Lime House Sushi and Ramen, known for serving authentic Japanese cuisine to New Yorkers, has helped with relief efforts in a country as far away as Myanmar. Last October 12, 2024, Lime House sponsored a fundraising concert organized by the Buffalo Myanmar Association. Ticket sales from the concert went to relief efforts for residents of Myanmar displaced by severe flooding.
Thanda Win, founder of Lime House Sushi and Ramen, is herself from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). “The success of Lime House will not be a reality without the loving family and community that supported me through my ups and downs. For that, I remember to always give back to the community I call home,” Thanda said, citing the reason she decided to sponsor the event.
In September 2024, Typhoon Yagi hit Myanmar, and combined with torrential monsoon rains, caused massive flooding that affected about 1.1 million Burmese residents. Damage was extensive, destroying homes, schools, roads, crops, and livestock. With this, the Buffalo Myanmar Association decided to hold a concert to raise funds to help their fellow nationals.
“Lime House is not just a restaurant or a business; it’s a movement and a family that celebrates innovation, quality, and community,” Thanda added. Together with the supportive management and staff of Lime House, Thanda is creating an image that Lime House is not just a restaurant, but a force for the common good.
Thanda has also expressed her desire to continue supporting community efforts that bring about positive change. It is her hope that even through small contributions to the community, Lime House can be part of the collective effort to make the world a better place to live in for everyone.
