Mama Fu’s Recognized Among Industry Giants For Innovative Menu Offerings, Set to Receive National Award for Its Bánh Mi Vietnamese Sandwich

Mama Fu’s Asian House continues to sizzle as a restaurant industry leader. The Austin-based franchise that is known for its Flex-Casual service – fast casual at lunch, full service at dinner – will be honored for its innovative menu offerings during the 15th Annual MenuMasters Awards Celebration in Chicago on May 5, 2012.

Mama Fu’s Banh Mi Vietnamese Street Sandwich and the company’s Flex-Casual service model will be recognized with the Menu Trendsetter award.

“Throughout the past four years, we have continued to evolve Mama Fu’s to put us in an extremely favorable position to dominate the Asian segment of the restaurant industry,” said company president and CEO Randy Murphy, who will share the stage in Chicago with other award honorees Buffalo Wild Wings, Quaker Steak & Lube, Sonic Corp., The Cheesecake Factory and Wendy’s. “This coveted award only confirms that we’re well on our way.”

Mama Fu’s developed its Bánh Mi Vietnamese Street Sandwich in just 90 days, from idea to execution, including consumer testing, eventually launching it last August to rousing reviews. Offered with beef, chicken or shrimp, Bánh Mi is made with wok seared protein, and comes with fresh vegetables and a spicy sauce. It is served on a crispy baguette.

MenuMasters Awards are produced by Nation’s Restaurant News and sponsored by Ventura Foods. Winners are selected by the magazine’s editorial board, and honor outstanding menu development and excellence in foodservice research and development.

“MenuMasters Awards are among the most prestigious honors in foodservice,” said Randall Friedman, publisher of Nation’s Restaurant News. “We are pleased to honor this outstanding display of culinary innovation and salute the brightest minds behind these award-winning menu concepts.”

Chris Furman, president and chief executive of Ventura Foods, added “Congratulations to the MenuMasters honorees for delivering the kind of culinary excellence that inspires our industry and delights consumers every day. We look forward to congratulating this year’s winners.”
