New Abuelo’s Taqueria to Offer Fresh, Fast and Exciting Mexican Food

In just a few months, Lubbock will get its first taste of Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurants’ newest concept – Abuelo’s Taqueria – that will feature unique, fresh, handmade Mexican creations served in a contemporary, fast-casual environment. The new concept is scheduled to open in late October at 19th Street and Quaker Ave. in Lubbock.

Abuelo’s Taqueria is designed to deliver the same high quality food that Abuelo’s is known for, but with many exciting new menu additions that blend traditional Mexican tastes with other unique, continental flavors. It will offer a variety of meats and seafood items, salads, fresh vegetables and flavorful, handmade sauces and salsas that will fulfill almost every craving. Ice cold beer and delicious margaritas will also be available.

“Our traditional Abuelo’s restaurants have earned a reputation for extraordinary Mexican specialties that raise the bar of Mexican food,” said Robert Lin, president of Food Concepts International. “Abuelo’sTaqueria offers us a way to further express our passion for food in a distinctively different way, while at the same time giving our guests the same quality they have come to expect from Abuelo’s.”

The new Abuelo’s Taqueria features a “fast-casual” format where guests order at a counter for speedier, more casual service, with menu items and pricing that are conducive to frequent dining and convenience. Fast-casual restaurants – where consumers can get quick, fresh, affordably priced meals in a nice, casual atmosphere – are one of the country’s hottest dining trends, according to a report by Technomic, a Chicago-based food industry consulting and research company.

“We are delighted to introduce this exciting new concept to our hometown, Lubbock,” said James Young, co-founder and CEO of Abuelo’s and Chairman of Food Concepts International. “Abuelo’s Taqueria will provide a convenient way to enjoy incredible new tastes from Abuelo’s. It’s a perfect fit for today’s lifestyles, and is ideal for both lunch and dinner for everyone who loves Mexican food but is short on time – from families, busy professionals and college students to even a fun, affordable date night or a quick meal before or after a Tech game.”

Since its first opening in 1989, Abuelo’s has consistently been on the leading edge of Mexican cuisine, combining menu creativity, outstanding food and beverage quality, colorful plate presentations and superior service in an impressive Mexican courtyard-themed atmosphere. Owned and operated by Food Concepts International of Lubbock, Texas, Abuelo’s has received national accolades as the top-ranked Mexican food restaurant and as one of America’s top overall restaurant chains in three consecutive biennial surveys by a leading national consumer rating magazine. The company currently has 41 restaurants located in 15 states throughout the United States. The company’s newest concept, Abuelo’s Urban Taqueria, is scheduled to open in Lubbock in October 2012.
