Falls Church, VA – Harvey’s
A lot of chefs talk a big game about opening an everyday “neighborhood restaurant” —and then go the opposite direction with things like super-pricey small plates. That’s not the case for chef Thomas Harvey, who is opening his first solo act, Harvey’s, in Falls Church in September. The all-day restaurant aims to please with breakfast sandwiches and La Colombe coffee for early birds, a casual counter-order system matched with a cozy dining room and a 70-seat patio for lounging, and a retail market stocked with local goods. The space takes over from Plaka Grill, which moved up the street.
Knoxville, TN – Frothy Monkey
Frothy Monkey will open a new location in Knoxville in 2022. Started in 2004, Frothy Monkey is an all-day café that originated in Nashville, TN. Currently, they operate six locations in Nashville, Chattanooga and Franklin, TN. This new location will open on Gay Street in the Kress Building, which is owned by Thomas Boyd at 417 S. Gay St. The space occupies 4,500 sq. ft and will hold about 180 seats
East Rutherford, NJ – Ferris wheel
A huge Ferris wheel and luxury retail wing featuring a champagne bar are the latest attractions scheduled to open this fall at American Dream mall. The retail wing dubbed “The Avenue” will open on Sept. 17 and be anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, which is making its return to New Jersey after closing its last Garden State store, at the Mall at Short Hills, five years ago.
Crest Hill, IL – Portillo’s
A new Portillo’s restaurant opening in suburban Joliet will offer its classic Chicago favorites solely by pick-up or delivery. Located at Larkin Avenue and Route 30, Portillo’s Pick-Up is the first of its kind for the chain, providing three lanes of cars to pick up everything from cake shakes and hot dogs to Italian beef sandwiches and French fries.
Mt. Pleasant, MI – Sweet Dream Donut & Coffee
For anyone dreaming of delicious doughnuts to kick off their morning, Sweet Dream Donut & Coffee hopes to open by Aug. 1. Owner Houn Hourn, who prefers her nickname Cindy, is planning to open her fifth northwest Missouri doughnut shop, and first in Maryville in the former Bank Midwest building located at 1016 S. Main St. Now, no stranger to the doughnut business, Cindy said she’s excited about opening in Maryville.
Lake Geneva, WI – Hibachi Grill
The Lake Geneva area will soon have a new hibachi grill restaurant option with Zaab Corner– Thai for “yummy” – opening this summer. It will be run by the owners of Sabai, Sabai, the Lake Geneva Thai restaurant that opened in 2018 at 306 Center St. They are also bringing in two new partners, giving it a whole different taste and feel from Sabai, Sabai, which will also remain open and continue to offer traditional Thai dishes as well as sushi.
