Thomasville, GA – Marco’s Pizza
A Florida couple interested in entrepreneurship decided on a Thomasville pizza restaurant venture. Mike and Kristi Rutherford, who live in north Leon County, considered Tallahassee as a restaurant site. Thomasville – “being so close” – also was on their radar. “We fell in love with Thomasville,” Mr. Rutherford said. “The community sucked us in.” The restaurant, Marco’s Pizza, will open in January at 14949 U.S. 19 South, Suite C, former site of Jersey Mike’s.
Hampton, VA – The Baker’s Wife
The restaurant industry has been more than hard-hit in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, with local restaurants struggling to keep afloat, and moving to takeout and patio business to prop up the bottom line. But new restaurants continue to plan openings this year – whether casual restaurants geared toward strange times, or ambitious spots banking on a future beyond the pandemic as vaccines slowly make their way around the country.
Plainview, TX – Braum’s Ice Cream & Burger Restaurant
The new Braum’s Ice Cream & Burger Restaurant building is going up rapidly. The location is anticipated to be open as early as next month. It’s in the home stretch, said Jeff Johnston, Plainview assistant city manager. The timeline to open isn’t firm but the goal is for the restaurant to open in the first quarter of 2021.
Hamilton, OH – Chick’n Cone
Longtime West Side Little League coach Ken Coomer hopes to open Ohio’s first Chick’nCone at The Marcum downtown in late January. The chicken-and-waffle-cone restaurant will be next to The Casual Pint, at 134 Riverfront Plaza. Aside from the no-fork-needed chicken-and-waffles with a choice of sauce, a meal comes with Cajun fries and a drink. Once a liquor license is obtained, margaritas will be served.
New York, NY – Hawksmoor
London’s premier steakhouse is making its U.S. debut in New York City’s Gramercy Park neighborhood this spring. Opened in 2006 by childhood friends Will Beckett and Huw Gott, the eight-location chain is known for charcoal-grilled steaks and a stand-out cocktail program that’s won them Best International Restaurant Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans twice. Situated inside the landmarked United Charities Building – which has until now, been closed to the public for nearly a century – New York diners can expect grass-fed, dry-age beef, classic steakhouse sides, and stellar cocktails.
Nashville, TN – Audrey
Sean Brock made his mark on the culinary landscape in Charleston, South Carolina, with Husk and McCrady’s before cutting ties with the restaurant groups in late 2019. Early next year, the award-winning chef and bestselling cookbook author will open a new flagship restaurant in East Nashville. Named after his grandmother, Audrey will be “dedicated to exploring the possibilities” of Southern food.
