Newk’s Eatery, a fresh casual restaurant concept offering a variety of made-to-order choices, opened its second Jacksonville restaurant at 14964 Max Leggett Parkway on May 20. It’s the first local rebranded location and the second in the country, including an updated logo and a new name – Newk’s Eatery – replacing Newk’s Express Café. The restaurant is the second of five locations set to open in Jacksonville and St. Augustine.
The owners are Scott and Anne Marie Russell and Scott’s parents, Terry and Linda Russell, who also own the Newk’s at 9047-1 Southside Blvd. Terry and Linda were farmers in Mississippi for 45 years and Scott and Anne Marie farmed for the last 13 years before moving to Jacksonville to open Newk’s.
“We saw a golden opportunity in Newk’s and decided to take the plunge. We left everything we knew—including friends and family—to move to Florida and open a new business,” Anne Marie said. “Jacksonville has been very welcoming and we are excited to make our business part of the community. We were so impressed with the food and atmosphere at Newk’s and we are confident that Jacksonville residents will enjoy it as well.”
Newk’s Eatery provides a fresh casual dining experience and features a variety of made-to-order choices including fresh-tossed salads, oven-baked sandwiches, California-style pizzas, made-from-scratch soups and homemade cakes baked by Newk’s Bakery Company. A selection of wines by the glass and beer is also available.
Since opening its first location in Oxford, Miss., in 2004, Newk’s Eatery has expanded their presence to 11 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Newk’s has 52 restaurants open, 45 of which are franchised. Five new restaurants opened in 2010; 15 in 2011 and seven in 2012. Projections call for 15 restaurants to open in 2013.
