Outback Steakhouse Celebrates First Flight With Free Bloomin' Onion

Who said onions can’t fly? Outback Steakhouse broke the rules with the first flying Bloomin’ Onion at the National Red Bull Flugtag. Outback’s human-powered flying machine took flight at Bayfront Park in Miami, Florida during the September 21 event.

To celebrate this “impossible” feat, Outback Steakhouse will give away a free Bloomin’ Onion with any purchases to guests who say, “The Onion Flew” on Tuesday, September 24.

“Take that, gravity,” said Mike Kappitt, Chief Marketing Officer for Outback Steakhouse. “Today is a great day in Bloomin’ Onion history and to celebrate Outback is giving away free Bloomin’ Onions on Tuesday, September 24th.”

Outback’s Flyin’ Bloomin’ Onion was the inaugural craft at the National Red Bull Flugtag event in Miami. It was built in the likeness of the Outback’s popular hand-carved Bloomin’ Onion. The craft flew a 30-foot-high flight deck during its launch at National Red Bull Flugtag. To watch the video, click here.

“Outback is all about breaking conventions to deliver a better experience for our customers,” said Kappitt. “We are thankful to our good friends at Red Bull for inviting us to Flugtag and giving us the opportunity to prove that Bloomin’ Onions do fly.”
