Nation’s leading fast-casual pizza brand marks major milestone Oct. 10
Pizza lovers in Maryland are about to get a double dose of Pie Five Pizza when the trend-setting concept unveils its second location in the state this week.
Pie Five will also be celebrating a major milestone with the opening of its first Owings Mills restaurant at 10995 Owings Mills Blvd., adjacent to the Stevenson University bookstore. The grand opening on Friday, Oct. 10, marks the chain’s 25th nationwide location.
It’s an exciting time for local franchise owner Jeff Mengel, who previously helped introduce Five Guys Burgers and Fries to the area. The Owings Mills restaurant is the first of up to a dozen Pie Five franchise units Mengel plans to open in his native Baltimore.
“I am convinced that Pie Five is the next category killer in the fast-casual space, and we are really excited to bring this pizza revolution to the Owings Mills community,” said Mengel. “There simply is no place like Pie Five, where you can create your own perfect, individualized pizza with all the fresh, high-quality ingredients you love and have it baked-to-order in less than five minutes, for one great price. It’s an unbeatable combo and it’s no wonder it’s sweeping the nation.”
Doors will officially open at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. Pie Five Pizza CEO Randy Gier is also flying in from the company’s Dallas headquarters for the celebration.
Mengel and his team are donating half of their sales from pre-opening training events held this week to the Living Legacy Foundation, a Baltimore-based organization that facilitates the donation and recovery of human organs and tissues for transplantation and research. The cause is personal to Mengel, whose father-in-law was a lung-transplant recipient and was actively involved with the foundation before passing away roughly a month ago.
“The Living Legacy Foundation is an extraordinary organization, as my family can attest, and we’re looking forward to using the excitement around our opening to support their important work here in Baltimore,” said Mengel.
A check presentation will be made on Friday, Oct. 17, during a special radio remote with MIX 106.5. The hit music station will be onsite from 6-8 p.m., adding to the festivities with merchandise and food giveaways.
At Pie Five, guests can choose from more than a million combinations of handcrafted pizzas and a variety of specialty pie choices prepared in less than five minutes on one of four crusts, all for one low price. The rapidly expanding chain is capitalizing on growing consumer demand for fresh dining options and artisan pizzas in stylish environments without the wait.
Pie Five Pizza has been named among Fast Casual’s 2014 Top 15 “Movers & Shakers,” a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation’s Restaurant News and one of “10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands” by Forbes.com. With the Owings Mills opening, the company now has 25 locations in eight states (Florida, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia) with more than 200 announced franchise units under contract in 14 states and Washington, DC.
Hours at the Owings Mills location are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Maryland’s first Pie Five restaurant opened in Frederick in late August.
