Wingstop, the rapidly expanding wing chain with 540 locations, has announced two new restaurants will land in Philadelphia in early 2013.
The first location is scheduled to open in late January at 6024 Ridge Ave. in the Roxborough Ridge Commons shopping center. A second location will quickly follow at 6700 Germantown Ave., in the former U.S. Post Office building in West Mt. Airy.
The openings are thanks to Philadelphia native Richard Johnson of Jomartt Enterprises, L.P. Johnson signed a multi-unit development agreement earlier this year for eight new restaurants in the area.
“Philly is an exciting, growing market for the Wingstop brand and I am excited to be a part of it,” said Johnson. “Growing up in Philly, I know the city craves good food and I can’t wait to introduce the communities of Roxborough, Mt. Airy, Chestnuthill, Germantown, Cheltenham and West Oaklane to our fresh, made-to-order wings and start serving local families and sports fans.”
Johnson plans to open six more Wingstop locations across Philadelphia and Montgomery counties over the next several years with the help of his wife Marylou, his three children, Abrianna, Trevor and Tristan and nephew Jason Olivieri.
As a former franchisee of McDonald’s, Johnson had worked with the brand for over 35 years either in his uncle’s restaurant or in his own stores. Now he plans to make Wingstop the new family business.
“I love Philly and I wanted my next big restaurant adventure to be something that I could help introduce the city to,” added Johnson. “Wingstop is still a really new concept in the Northeast and this way, I can create a legacy for my family and help give the people of Philly a new restaurant that they are really going to enjoy.”
